Prof. Irwin Kotler

Jewish-Canadian jurist, research fellow at the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs. Served as Canada’s Justice Minister in 2003-2006 and as a Canadian MP in 1999-2015. Before that he was Professor of Law at McGill University from 1973 until his election to the Canadian legislature. Cotler headed the Canadian Jewish Congress, and presently heads the committee of the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy. He is Chairman of the Raul Wallenberg Center for Human Rights, and a member of the executive board of UN Watch. Cotler is considered an expert in matters of international law and human rights. Among other things, he represented Nathan Sharansky when in a Soviet prison and promoted a proposal to try Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for incitement to genocide.
